SUMMARY:GTACC First Friday Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to hold our April First Friday IN PERSON!!! We will welcome Orlando Sanchez to speak on the topic of Border Security.\n\n\n\nOrlando Sanchez was elected Harris County Treasurer in November of 2006\, the first immigrant to be chosen county-wide by the voters for a non-judicial office. He served in that office until December 2016\, overseeing Harris County's multiple bank accounts\, paying the county's expenses and serving as an independent set of eyes in overseeing spending of county taxpayer dollars.\n\nSanchez immigrated to Houston when his father was hired by former Harris County Judge Roy Hofheinz to be one of two Spanish announcers for the Colt 45s Baseball Club and then the Houston Astros. Sanchez graduated from Bellaire High School\, joined the U.S. Air Force\, and enrolled at the University of Houston. \n\nHe graduated cum laude from the University of Houston with a degree in political science and embarked on a career as a public servant\, first as a three-term Houston City Council member and then as Harris County Treasurer. Orlando sat on the Harris County Bail Bonds Board\, is a member of the Board of Directors of Capital Bank\, a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo\, the 100 Club of Houston and is a current advisory member of Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers-Southwest. He is a member of the University of Houston Foundation Board of Directors and is a former advisory member of the University of Houston Law School Foundation. In addition\, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a Fellow of the British American Project.\n\nHe was the first Latino immigrant elected to a city-wide position in Houston. He served three terms on Council and helped his colleagues pass the first property tax cut in decades. \n\nOrlando was appointed to the U.S. Senate Task Force on Hispanic Affairs.\n\nHe is the founder of Texas Latino Conservatives PAC.\n\n \n\n\n\nYou are also able to join virtually: \n\n \n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\n\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85929801087?pwd=MlJoWnlCelZnbE9JUGRKQmVuY2lGQT09\n\nMeeting ID: 859 2980 1087\n\nPasscode: 737829\n\nOne tap mobile\n\n+13462487799\,\,85929801087#\,\,\,\,*737829# US (Houston)\n\n+16699009128\,\,85929801087#\,\,\,\,*737829# US (San Jose)\n\nDial by your location\n\n +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n\n +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n\n +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n\n +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n\n +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n\n +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n\nMeeting ID: 859 2980 1087\n\nPasscode: 737829\n\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kd7c1Dor9b
