Join us for a public event on June 18th to welcome Marine Cpl. Raul Olivares & his family to his new Helping A Hero home in Towne Lake! The parade starts at 11:30 and will lead guests to his home in Towne Lake's newest section of The Greene. Special guest speaker Roger Clemens will speak at the event and Kroger has donated briskets to be served.
This ceremony is taking place on Raul's "Alive Day", which is the anniversary of his attack. Olivares was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) while engaged in combat in Afghanistan in 2010, leaving him with severe injuries to both of his legs. After numerous surgeries, today his legs are considered salvageable, although they may need amputation in the future.
Caldwell Companies donated the home site and Houston-based Helping a Hero (HAH) is partnering with Chesmar Homes to build a new home for the wounded veteran. Chesmar’s HAH home will be designed with wheelchair-accessible amenities to accommodate Olivares, his wife and three children. The single-story home will feature four bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms.
If you would like to make a donatino to the family prior to the event, please drop off gift cards at the Towne Lake welcome center or contact Jennifer Symons for more information.
