Just in time for the holidays, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts will feature "Joan Son: Crazy About Paper" in the Main Gallery. The exhibition opens Saturday, December 18, 2021 and continues through January 8, 2022. Houston artist Joan Son had an early passion for paper dolls, folded fortune tellers, and tissue paper carnations. Today, she uses sculptural and paper folding techniques to create three-dimensional paper garments, nature scenes, and large-scale hanging installations. Joan’s origami art has been exhibited in the windows of Tiffany & Co. in Houston, as well as the Smithsonian Museum Shops, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston Grand Opera, Art Institute of Chicago, The Jung Center, and The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, to name a few. In the Cole Gallery, the Pearl continues their exhibition of "The Art of Paper," a curated exhibition of work by five artists that will bring a smile to guests of all ages. With pieces that range from beautifully detailed to lighthearted and fun, "The Art of Paper" runs through January 8, 2022 and is generously sponsored by Lone Star College-University Park. Located at 6815 Cypresswood Drive in Spring, TX, the Pearl is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated and help continue the Pearl’s mission of art, education and community.
